Trapshooters come in all shapes, sizes, and ages.  Our club is open to shooters every Tuesday night for practice from 6-10 pm. There are many fun activities throughout the year for trapshooters to enjoy. If you are interested in fun shoots or registered targets, we have a variety of events for you.  You may be interested in our fun shoots, which include a Mid-winter League, Daffodil Shoot, Hunter's Special, or our Turkey Shoot. Some of our club members participate in the Continental Trapshooting League. We offer Pacific International Trapshooting Association (PITA) registered shoots with cross-registration for Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA).

Mid-winter League

This fun league shooting usually starts at the beginning of February and continues for about 10 weeks.  Each week there are 50 targets to shoot, the first 5 weeks the targets are at the 16 yard line.  After the first 5 weeks shooters are placed in classes for competition.  The final 5 weeks there is a variety of targets to shoot, usually 25 targets at the 16 yard line and then 25 targets at various handicap yardages.  Everyone shoots at the same yardage so it is fair for everyone.  There will be at least one week for make-up targets to be shot.  The banquet at the end of the league will have food, prizes and trophies for participants.  Come on out and enjoy the fun.  In order to enjoy the league more, it is recommended that you help by volunteering to score other shooters.  Who knows, you could learn something too.

The 2008 Mid-Winter League was very successful.  We had 38 shooters participate, but 29 shooters competed the entire 10 weeks.  Everyone had fun with the weekly competition.  It is difficult to create a competition that will challenge the experienced shooter and still allow the new shooters to hit targets so they don't get discouraged.  This year, we tried a couple of new ways to shoot.  During week 3 and week 8 we shot 10 targets per post.  Most people had never tried this before, it did make the shooting go faster.  During the middle of the league shooting we had new field lights installed, which helped shooter see the target better, even if they couldn't hit the targets any better.

Daffodil Shoot

The Daffodil Shoot is usually held on an open Sunday around the same time as the local Daffodil Parade in the spring.  The shoot is open to all contestants.  This is a 90-bird shoot with 25 singles, 25 handicap, 10 pair doubles, and 10 continental targets.  Each participant will be classified on Known-ability for competition.  Usually the cost of the shoot will include a portion to be distributed as Lewis class winnings.  The club usually offers breakfast and lunch for purchase to make this an enjoyable day at the club.

Hunter's Special

The Hunter's Special Shoot is normally held the last open Sunday before the hunting season opens in the fall.  It is conducted similar to the Daffodil Shoot in that it is 90 birds and the participants have an opportunity to win some money if they shoot well.

Turkey Shoot

This shoot is very different from our other special shoots.  Each shooter purchases a shoot card with five chances to compete and the card is punched each 10 targets.  The shooter competes against others at the 16 yard line whoever has the best score wins a turkey.  Each shooter only shoots 2 targets at each of the five posts.  There are only two turkeys per winner, however, everyone "wins" a turkey.  If after your card is punched the five chances and you have not "won" in competition, you "win" a turkey.  All the frozen turkeys have been purchased from a local store .  There may also be a chance to "win" a turkey by purchasing a slice of the paper target.  This target is shot and the slice with the most holes from the shotgun shot wins.

We  hosted our fun turkey shoot on November 18, 2007.  We had over 40 shooters and most of our board of directors were present to help with the shoot.

Continental Trapshooting League
The Continental Trapshooting League is an opportunity for shooters to compete at various gun clubs throughout the region.  The continental targets are more challenging than regular trap targets as they are thrown faster and the machine oscillates higher, lower and with greater angles for the left and right targets.  You have the opportunity to shoot twice at the same target.  Juniors and Ladies may choose to compete on 50 targets instead of 100.  In order for a club to participate it is required to provide at least one squad per year to compete. There are currently 8 clubs that participate.  These include Kenmore, Seattle Skeet & Trap, Gig Harbor, Evergreen, Bremerton, Renton, Black Diamond, and Sumner Sportsmen's Association (SSA).  An member of SSA is welcome to compete at any of these shoots and represent SSA.  The cost is $24 per 100 targets.  In order to represent SSA you must present a current membership card.  If you are not affiliated with any particular gun club, you may still participate as non-affiliated.  The season has warm-up shoots in December and competition begins in January through March.  If you are interested please check their website, www.continentalshooting.com.  Please come out and enjoy the fun.  SSA is hosted the shoot on January 27, 2008.  Thanks to all who helped volunteer and make this a successful shoot.

Registered Targets

Pacific International Trapshooting Association (PITA)

The PITA allows member clubs to hold registered shoots throughout the year.  One of the most popular options for registered shooters is the magnum, which can yield a great deal of money on occasion.  However, PITA rules stipulate that only one club in the state of Washington may have this option on a particular day.  Our club normally holds the annual PITA Shoot the first weekend in April or the last weekend in March.  This shoot traditionally has belt buckles for trophies and consists of 5 events over a 3 day period.  Friday's event is Doubles, then on Saturday and Sunday a Singles and a Handicap event are held.

SSA hosted a registered shoot April 4-6, 2008.  There were about 10 squads of shooters for the events on Saturday and Sunday.  Thank you to those who helped make this a successful shoot.  SSA will also be hosting a shoot on August 2-3, 2008.  You can check our links page to connect to this organization and check the shoot schedule.
