Floods
There have been 3 floods which have devastated the Sumner Sportsmen's
Association. There was a flood in the 1970's and there was a flood in February 1996, which was at the end of
the rainy season. The club was closed for 10-11 months for repairs.
The club did not have flood insurance during that time. The latest flood
was November 2006, which was at the beginning of the rainy season. The
club was closed for 8 months, however, there was a sporting clays shoot during
March and May. This time the club had flood insurance so it didn't take as
long to get the work done. Randy Chandler was the chairman for the repairs
committee. Besides arranging to get materials delivered, Randy spent many
hours operating equipment. There were many people from the board of
directors who helped during the first couple of weeks to dig out the clubhouse.
After that there were a handful of people who spent countless hours getting
things done. Several other people helped with the clean up and repairs,
those people either had equipment or supplies to continue the rebuilding effort.
